Andrea Mitchell – Origami Boxes
Andrea is a transplant to Milton-Freewater, a newcomer to crafting and a grandma; and now recently, a great grandma.  The extent of her artistic endeavor did not go beyond patching jeans for her boys.  Shortly after she retired, a dear friend and talented crafter showed her how to make an origami box from old cards.  She was enthralled and found a book of origami box patterns by Tomoko Fuse and was hooked.  These charming boxes are a more recent form of origami made with multiple units rather than a single square of paper.  The patterns are endlessly fascinating to make, are a beautiful alternative to the more traditional gift wrap and gift bag and can be used again and again.  Students will be guided through the steps to make a pentagon star box, first in paper and then in fabric. This pattern, using Andrea's adaptations, can be expanded to make 6-sided
(hexagon) and 8-sided (octagon) gift boxes.
